On 19th October 1959, the Voice of America (VOA) broadcast a first Special English program. It was forst experiment of its kind . The goal of this experiment was to communicate by radio in simple and understandable English with people whose National/Native language was not English. Quickly these Special English programs became some of the most popular on VOA, and they still are. Special English continues to communicate with people who are not fluent in English language. Over the years, its role has expanded. It helps people learn English while they learn about American life, culture, history and stay informed about world news and developments in science and technology. It provides radio listeners with information they cannot find elsewhere.
